The Chief Military Prosecutor's Office approved a criminal indictment against 36-year-old New Zealand citizen Jordan O'Brien. He is accused in absentia under of Art. 359 part 3of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict).
According to the investigation, O’Brien arrived in Ukraine in April 2022, where, as part of the “Dark Angels” mercenary group, for a monthly monetary reward equivalent to 450 thousand rubles, he began fighting against Russian military personnel and civilians.
In August 2024, the foreigner, as part of a military unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, illegally invaded the territory of the Kursk Region, where he continued to actively participate in the armed conflict on the enemy side.
O’Brien was put on the international wanted list on September 20, 2024, and on the same day the Khamovnichesky District Court of Moscow chose in absentia a preventive measure in the form of detention.
The criminal case was sent to the Kursk Regional Court for examination on the merits.
