Text

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic passed sentence in absentia in a criminal case against 39-year-old US citizen Troy Offenbecker. He was found guilty under Article 359 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict).

The court established that in the period from May 2022 to August 2024, Offenbecker arrived on the territory of Ukraine and voluntarily joined the International Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, where he underwent military training. He was provided with personal firearms, ammunition, uniforms and special equipment. After this, Offenbecker participated in military operations on the Ukrainian side at various points of battle contact.

The amount of reward received by the mercenary is equivalent to more than 2.2 million rubles.

Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced Offenbecker in absentia to 14 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict-regime correctional colony.
