Text

Today, on 25 May 2016, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the United Arab Emirates extradited the Russian citizen Zagir Galin to Russia.

The investigation bodies accuse him of the crimes provided by Article 282.2 (2) (the participation in the activities of the organization in respect of which a court has passed an enforceable decision on prohibition of the activity in connection with performance of an extremist activity) and Article 222 (2) (the illegal posession of firearms, ammunition, explosives, committed by a group of persons by prior collusion) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The criminal matter of Galin is investigated by the Main Investigative Department for the Republic of Bashkortostan of the Ministry of the Interior of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, Galin, together with other persons, within 25 February 2010 - 23 September 2011, in the Republic of Bashkortostan, being aware of the prohibition of the activities of the terrorist organization “Imarat Kavkaz” (“Caucasian Emirate”) participated in clandestine anti-Russian and anti-constitutional propagandist activities pursued by the cell of the above mentioned organization.

Thus Galin conducted outreach activities among the population advocating religious extremism, separatism and calling to the change of the existing State order, incited the indoctrinated individuals to become members of this organizations.

Moreover, Galin, being a member of the Baimak cell of the terrorist organization “Imarat Kavkaz” (“Caucasian Emirate”), along with other members of this organization, kept in his house explosives, firearms and ammunition, which were found and seized during the search in September 2011.

As Galin absconded from the criminal prosecution, he was placed on the federal wanted list in July 2012 and on the international wanted list in March 2015.

In March 2016, as his whereabouts were established in the territory of the United Arab Emirates, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request to the UAE competent authorities for his extradition which was granted in May 2016.

Today Zagir Galin was extradited to Russia.
