According to the official representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation Alexander Kurennoy, today, on 5 April, 2016, the competent authorities of the Republic of Italy will extradite to Russia the Russian citizen Dmitry Bezdelov (former head of Rosgranitsa) at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

He is accused by the investigative authorities of the crimes under Part 3 of Article 210 (creation of a criminal association for the purpose of joint commission of several serious crimes and the leadership of such association committed by the person with the use of his official position) and Part 4 of Article 159 (fraud committed by a member an organized group, on an especially large scale, with the use of his official position) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The criminal case against Mr. Bezdelov is now being examined by the Main Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

During the investigation, it was established that in the summer of 2009, Bezdelov, being the head of Rosgranitsa, for the purpose of stealing the state budget funds allocated for the construction of the railroad checkpoint "Adler", entered into a criminal conspiracy with some persons. They arranged for winning the tender for a public procurement contract by the construction organization controlled by them. The amount of the stolen funds exceeded 1 billion 175 million rubles.

Given the fact that Mr. Bezdelov flew from the prosecution, he was put on the federal wanted list in December 2013, and on the international wanted list in May 2014.

In October 2014, he was detained in the territory of Italy.

In November 2014, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation submitted a request to Italy for his extradition, which was granted in March 2016.

Dmitry Bezdelov will be extradited to Russia accompanied by the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Bureau of Interpol.
