Extradition from the United Arab Emirates to Russia of the Russian citizen Alexander Kukovyakin, one of the leaders and founders of the Uralmash criminal group

Today June 14, 2015, upon the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the United Arab Emirates will extradite the citizen of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kukovyakin, to Russia.

He is accused by the investigative authorities of committing criminal offences stipulated by Article 159 (4) (swindling committed by a group of persons by prior collusion, by a person through his or her official position, on an especially large scale), 174.1 (3 “a”, “b”) (the legislation (laundering) of monetary funds or other property acquired by a person as a result of an offence committed by him/her on a large scale, by a group of persons by prior collusion, by a person through his or her official position) and 327 (2) (forgery of official documents for the purpose of facilitating a crime) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Sverdlovsk Region is inquiring into the criminal case against Mr Kukovyakin.

The investigation revealed that in 2004, Kukovyakin and his accomplices stole more than 2.6 million roubles belonging to Tavda Hydrolysis Plant OJSC by forging official documents granting the right to obtain and withdraw monetary funds from the company’s account.

Kukovyakin and his accomplices laundered the funds obtained through the account of another enterprise.

As he absconded from criminal prosecution, he was placed on the federal wanted list in February 2005, and on the international wanted list in March 2005.

In June 2015, he was detained in the United Arab Emirates.

Kukovyakin’s arrest and the decision on his extradition were made possible thanks to the professionalism, and coordinated and consistent actions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the competent authorities of the United Arab Emirates.

Today, Alexander Kukovyakin will be extradited to Russia under the escort of officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian National Central Bureau of INTERPOL.
