Today, on October 8, 2014, the Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika met with the Uzbek Prosecutor General Rashitzhon Kadyrov on the margins of the twelfth meeting of the Prosecutors General of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Yuri Chaika thanked Rashitzhon Kadyrov for the excellent organization of the 12th meeting of the Prosecutors General of the member countries of the SCO. The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation outlined that very good conditions had been created for fruitful work of the meeting participants. Yuri Chaika said that the relationship between the Prosecutor's Offices of the two countries was extremely constructive. He noted that the realities of the present day, new challenges and threats require further consolidation of mutual efforts to combat crime.
During the meeting, the departments’ heads signed a cooperation agreement. The document provides for cooperation in a number of critical areas of the Russian and Uzbek prosecution authorities’ activity, such as protection of human rights and freedoms, fight against crime, including its organized forms, terrorism, corruption, illicit arms traffick, narcotics and psychotropic substances, crimes in the economy and high technology, other types of crime, representing increased danger to society, cooperation on extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
The Prosecutor General of Russia emphasized that the agreement would enhance the effectiveness of interdepartmental cooperation between the two Prosecutor’s Offices of the countries. The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan Rashitzhon Kadyrov said that the agreement signing was a very important event because the Prosecutor's Offices of Russia and Uzbekistan had successfully interacted for a long time on various issues relevant to the law enforcement agencies of the two countries. Rashitzhon Kadyrov noted that the agreement would give impetus to work even closer. He stressed that the Uzbek side felt the mutual understanding with Russia and it was very valuable for constructive cooperation.
