The Federal Attorney General’s Office of the Swiss Confederation granted the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on the assets return of the former member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Igor Izmestiev.
In December 2010, by the decision of the Moscow Municipal Court Izmestiev was convicted of creating and leading an armed gang, killings of two or more persons, organization of a terrorist act, other crimes and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Simultaneously, the court granted the victims' claims totaling RUR 7.8 million.

In 2012, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation sent a request to Switzerland for compensation of damage to Russian complainants under the judgment of the Moscow Municipal Court at the expense of these funds.
Despite the fact that the prosecution of Izmestiev was discontinued in Switzerland, the Federal Attorney General’s Office of the Swiss Confederation granted the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and adopted a decision to return the assets to the Russian party.
Cash in an amount equivalent to 200 thousand Swiss francs was received on the deposit account of one of the offices of the Federal Bailiff Service in Moscow. In the near future, these funds will be distributed and transferred to the accounts of the complainants.
