Text

Today, on August 14, 2014, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Thailand deported the Russian citizen Igor Kochergin to Russia. He is accused of committing crimes under Art. 159 Part 4 (fraud, i.e. acquisition of the right to other people's property by false pretences in especially big amount by an organized group), Art. 174.1 Part 4 (legalization (laundering) of property acquired by a person as the result of an offence committed by him/her in especially big amount by an organized group), Article 159 Part 4 (fraud, i.e. acquisition of the right to other people's property by false pretences in especially big amount by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The criminal proceedings against Kochergin are conducted by the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Central Federal District.

The investigation found that in 2006 Kochergin registered fraudulently in association with others the ownership of 16 land plots with total area of 22,500 square meters in Naro-Fominsky District of the Moscow Region at the cost of more than RUR 8.5 million.

Then Kochergin sold them by elaboration of forged documents on the transactions of purchase and sale of land plots.

Since Kochergin escaped from the investigating authorities, in November 2007, the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation took measures on organization of his international search. Due to the information about Kochergin’s visit to Thailand, in December 2009, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition to the Office of the Attorney General of the Kingdom of Thailand. In collaboration of the Embassy of the Russian Federation with the Kingdom of Thailand and the Interpol's National Central Bureau, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation took measures for deportation of Kochergin to Russia.

Today, Igor Kochergin will be deported to Russia accompanied by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Bureau of Interpol.
