On extradition of Russian citizen Michael Bogachek, accused of smuggling of cultural objects, to Russia from Switzerland

Today, on April 11, 2014, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation the competent authorities of the Swiss Confederation are extraditing Russian citizen Michael Bogachek. Investigative agencies accuse him of committing the crime, referred to in article 188, paragraph 4 (smuggling of cultural objects in especially big amount by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. 

The criminal case against Bogachek is pending by the investigation service of the Federal Security Service Directorate of Russia for Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast. 

According to investigation version, in October 2009 Bogachek, acting as a member of the criminal group, organized by him, members of which were, together with Russian citizens, citizens of the State of Israel, smuggled cultural objects - things and their fragments, which had been obtained as the result of excavations in Krasnodar Krai (ancient weapons and their fragments, jewelry, crockery - 97 boxes in total) at the Trofianovka border crossing point of the Vyborg Customs office of North Western Customs Directorate of the Federal Customs Service of Russia.

As Bogachek has fled from law enforcement agencies, in May 2010 he was put on a federal wanted list, and in October 2010 he was put on an international wanted list. 

In September 2013 the accused was detained within the territory of Switzerland. 

At the time, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition to Russia to the competent authorities of the Swiss Confederation; this request was satisfied in April 2014. 

Today Michael Bogachek, escorted by officials of Federal Penitentiary Service and those of Interpol Bureau of Russian, will be extradited to Russia.
