Today, March 04, 2014, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic in the Russian Federation Jean-Maurice Ripert in Moscow.
Participants of the meeting also were senior officials of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.
Welcoming the guest, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation congratulated Jean-Maurice Ripert on his appointment at position of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic in the Russian Federation and wished him success in this very important work.
Yury Chaika noted that Russia and France enjoy long term friendly and warm relationship, based on mutual interest in international security and scaling up of strategic partnership both within the framework of international organizations and in bilateral format and, in particular, in the law enforcement sphere.
Example of such interaction is the Joint Statement of Cooperation signed by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the French Republic in May 2009. Bilateral working group has been working since November 2011. At its meetings, issues on interaction in the sphere of extradition and legal assistance in criminal cases are considered; perspectives of further cooperation in this field are discussed.
In 2012 implementation of two-year Cooperation Program between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the French Republic was finished.
The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation expressed hope that Cooperation Program for 2014 – 2015 would be signed.
In his turn, Jean-Maurice Ripert thanked Yury Chaika for the reception and opportunity to exchange views on a wide range of issues and assured that the meeting would promote continuity and further development of relations for the purpose of ensuring protection of citizens' rights and countering new challenges and threats.
