About extradition to Russia from Spain of a citizen of the Russian Federation Alexander Markin who is blamed for committing murders as a member organized group

Today, upon the request of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Spain are extraditing a citizen of the Russian Federation Alexander Markin. He is charged with committing crimes foreseen by points "a, e, j, z" in part 2 of article 105 (murder concerning of two or more persons, by a generally dangerous method, committed by an organized group in mercenary inducement), part 3 of article 222 (illegal purchase, storage, transportation of explosives and explosive devices, committed by an organized group), part 3 of article 223 (illegal manufacturing of explosive devices, committed by an organized group), part 2 of article 167 (deliberate destruction of other's property, followed by infliction of considerable damage, made by an explosion), part 3 of article 33 and points "a, j, z" in part 2 of article 105 (organization of a murder, i.e. intentional infliction of death to other person, of two and more persons, by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy, in mercenary inducement, on hire) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

As determined by the investigation, in 2002 the founder and General Director of a Moscow private security enterprise "Vitjaz-Sport" Alexander Markin decided to join the business of the holding company "Optifood" which was engaged in exportation of chicken meat. Mikhail Vjunsh - founder and leader of the "Optifood" - was strictly against of their joint activity.

With the aim of getting rid of obstacles from the side of Vjunsh, Markin decided to kill him, for what he involved his subordinated guards, promising them money income from operations of the holding company.

In November 2002, acting in accordance with the plan, Markin and members of the organized criminal group obtained components necessary for manufacturing of an explosive device which was later on installed on the highway on the route of the movement of the victim.

In December 2002, Vjunsh and two guards Alexander Fedorenko and Vladimir Zhukov were blown up in a car near a village Zarya of Balashikha district of the Moscow region. Moreover, a car "Mercedes - Benz" valued for over 1.8 million rubles was deliberately destroyed.

At that time the Prosecutor's office of the Moscow region instituted criminal case and it is in the execution stage of the Moscow regional court.

In February 2004, according to information of the preliminary investigation, Markin left the territory of the Russian Federation.

In August 2005 he was placed into the international wanted list, and in March 2006 he was detained on the territory of Spain, where in April 2006 the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition.

 

In June 2006 the Moscow regional court examined the criminal case about the murder of Vjunsh and his bodyguards and declared the members of an organized group Andrey Korunchik, Dmitry Slatin and Alexey Klimov guilty as per points "a, e, j, z" in part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of two and more persons, committed by an organized group in mercenary inducement, by a generally dangerous method). The accused that were partially punished for the previously pronounced verdict of the Moscow city court on the case about the murder of an entrepreneur Sergey Prosnyakov in May 2004, sentenced accordingly to 19 and 17 years of imprisonment in a correctional colony of strict regime. The sentence of the court concerning Korunchik, Slatin and Klimov came into legal force.

In May 2007, by the decision of the authorities of Spain, Markin was extradited to Russia for bringing to criminal responsibility, and in June 2007 he was presented his accusation and it was chosen the measure of preventive detention. However, the board of packed jury of the Moscow regional court in March 2008 gave him a not-guilty verdict which was declared illegal by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on May 15th, 2008 and returned the criminal case for new court trial.

However, Markin did not show up in the court session and in July 2008 he was declared in the Federal search, and in November 2008 he was placed into the international wanted list.

In February 2011 Markin was again detained on the territory of the Kingdom of Spain, and in March 2011 the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation forwarded to the competent authorities Spain a request for his extradition, which was satisfied in February 2012.

Today, accompanied by the employees of the FSIN (Federal Service Execution of Punishment) of Russia and the Russian Bureau of Interpol Alexander Markin is extradited to Russia.
