Today in the city of Saint Petersburg the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Yuri Chayka and General Prosecutor of the Kingdom of Spain Candido Conde-Pumpido Touron signed a joint Statement on the development of interdepartmental cooperation.
The document was signed in the framework of the Year of Spain in Russia and the Year of Russia in Spain as well as to the development of statements of the Memorandum about understanding on cooperation issues between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the State General Prosecutor's office of the Kingdom of Spain dated March 3rd, 2009.
According to the Statement, General prosecutors of Russia and Spain, taking into consideration the necessity for deepening of the cooperation and interaction between the Prosecutor's offices of both countries, in the framework of international agreements the participants of which Russia and Spain are, positively estimated the results of cooperation and steady climate of mutual understanding, in which the bilateral activities were carried out.
Yuri Chayka and Candido Conde-Pumpido Touron noted with satisfaction the effectiveness of established mechanisms of interactions between the contact persons of the Prosecutor's offices of both countries, who with respect of the statements of international agreements allow improvement and acceleration in transmission and execution of requests for legal assistance and extradition.
The participants expressed their willingness to continue deepening of the cooperation and provision of mutual support in the struggle against the most serious forms of criminality, taking into account their transnational character, causing public concern of both States. Both sides also confirmed the necessity to extend the exchange of information about the status and trends of organized criminality and legislative norms of their countries.
Moreover, Yuri Chayka and Candido Conde-Pumpido Touron agreed annually to hold at least one meeting of their representatives in order to exchange of experiences on the most topical issues of the activities of the Prosecutor's offices of Russia and Spain, which are of mutual interest, including the interest concerning the international cooperation in the field of struggling against organized criminality, terrorism, corruption and drug trafficking, the most significant changes in the Russian and Spanish legislation as well as the special requirements provided in connection with requests about extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters, including the imprisoning and confiscation of property obtained by illegal way.
The next meeting of the representatives of General Prosecutor's offices of two countries will be held in Spain in 2012.
