Today in the General Prosecutor’s office of the Russian Federation it was held a meeting of the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and the Minister of justice of the Republic of Lebanon Ibrahim Najjar.
Welcoming the guest Yury Chayka thanked Ibrahim Najjar for the visit and stressed that the challenges encountered by the agencies of two countries in ensuring of the protection of the rights of citizens dictate the need for close and fruitful cooperation. The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation confirmed strong targeting towards to the development of cooperation with the competent authorities of the Republic of Lebanon.
In his turn Ibrahim Najjar noted that he was also interested in closer contact between two institutions, particularly in the issues of the fight against terrorism, transnational criminality, in the sphere of protection of the rights of citizens including those ones in the places of detention. He stressed that the experience of Russia would be definitely demanded in his country.
In the course of the meeting the sides signed the Agreement on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of justice of the Lebanese Republic. The document provides for the holding of meetings and consultations for the exchange of experiences, cooperation in the sphere of extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, improving the skills of employees of the departments. In addition, the agreement provides for the exchange of information about the legal system and legislation of two countries, carrying out of joint researches, conferences and seminars on topical issues of the activity.
Yury Chayka noted that the signed Agreement would give a new impetus to the development of relations between Russia and Lebanon and would allow increasing the efficiency of interdepartmental work, strengthening mutual understanding in the field of protection of citizens' rights and the fight against criminality.
The parties also noted that the meeting would contribute to more efficient professional ties and development of the dialogue on a wide range of legal issues.
