Text

Today, further to the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of Spain are extraditing to Russia Lyudmila Nesterova, a citizen of the Russian Federation. The investigative bodies accuse Nesterova of six crimes, specified by Article 127.1 (3 "c") (trafficking in human beings, committed by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

It was established that at the end of 2005 Lyudmila Nesterova created an organized criminal group in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and this group transported women who lived in the said region to Spain for their sexual exploitation.

The international search for Lyudmila Nesterova was announced in December 2008.

At that time she was detained by the Spanish authorities which were conducting an operation "Zarpa" on the territory of the Kingdom of Spain in order to arrest the members of an international organized group which "delivered" Russian women to Spain to their further sexual exploitation.

In December 2008, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation forwarded to Spain a request on the extradition of Lyudmila Nesterova to Russia in order to bring her to criminal liability.

In November 2009 the request on her extradition was granted, but the final extradition of Nesterova was delayed until investigation of the investigation of the criminal case initiated on the territory of Spain had been completed.

Due to this fact in February 2010 the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation forwarded to the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Spain, a request on temporary extradition of Lyudmila Nesterova to Russia in order to conduct urgent investigative actions, and this request was allowed by the Spanish law enforcement authorities for the term of 3 months.
