Today, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of Germany are extraditing to Russia Makedon Kotanov, a citizen of the Russian Federation. The investigation bodies accuse him of the crime, specified by Article 228.1 (2"b") (illegal sale of drugs, committed on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Due to the fact that Makedon Kotanov had absconded from the law enforcement agencies, in July 2006 his federal search was announced, and in August 2009 he was placed on the international wanted list.
In June 2009 Kotanov was established on the territory of Greece, and in August 2009 the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation forwarded a request for his extradition to the competent authorities of Greece, but his Greece citizenship did not allow to extradite him to Russia.
In October 2009 Kotanov was arrested in Germany.
At the same time, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation forwarded a request to the competent authorities of Germany on the extradition of Kotanov with the view to bring him to criminal liability, and this request was allowed in January 2010.

Extradition of Mr Makedon Kotanov, a citizen of the Russian Federation, who is accused of illegal trafficking in drugs on a large scale, to Russia from Germany
