Extradition of Lithuanian Citizen Andrejus Griaziutinas, Charged with a Large-Scale Drug Trafficking Committed in the Russian Federation, from Spain to Russia

Today, upon request for extradition submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of Spain have extradited Lithuanian citizen Andrejus Griaziutinas. The investigative authorities accused him of the commission of crimes defined by Article 30, part 1, paras. “a”, “d”, Article 228.1, part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for a large-scale drug trafficking performed by a group of persons upon previous conspiracy).

The criminal case against A.Griaziutinas is under investigation by the Investigative Unit of the Investigative Service of the Department of the Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation for the Moscow Region.

The investigative authorities established that in 2005 A.Griaziutinas became a member of the criminal group created to distribute cannabis (marihuana) in the city of Moscow and in the Moscow Region. Within this criminal group, he was responsible for trafficking and transmission of drugs to drug couriers for delivery to persons who further distribute them.

In March 2007, A.Griaziutinas was put on international wanted list and in January 2009 he was detained in Spain.

In February 2009, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for extradition of A.Griaziutinas to the competent authorities of Spain, which was satisfied in August 2009.

Today, A.Griaziutinas has been extradited to Russia under the escort of the Russian Interpol Bureau and the Federal Penitentiary Service officers.
