Upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Uzbekistan extradited Vakhid Khashimi, a German citizen, to Russia.
The investigative authorities accused V.Khashimi of crimes defined by Article 210, part 2 (participation in a criminal association), Article 172, part 2, paras. “a”, “b” (performance of banking activities without registration and a special permit in cases where such authorization is obligatory, committed by a group of persons connected with deriving of revenue on especially large scale), Article 174-1, part 4 (performance of large-scale financial transactions and other operations with proceeds of crime committed by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The criminal case against V.Khashimi is under investigation by the Investigative Division of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Directorate of the Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation.
The investigative authorities found out that V.Khashimi, as a member of the organized criminal group, from January to July 2005 in Russia, was involved in illegal financial transactions with funds and organized transfer of the funds to banking institutions to credit them to accounts in foreign banks.
The proceeds from crimes committed by V.Khashimi and his accomplices amounted to over USD 30 million.
In July 2008, V.Khashimi was detained in Uzbekistan and at that time the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation submitted a request for his extradition to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
On March 3, 2009, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan made a final decision to satisfy the request for extradition of V.Khashimi to the Russian Federation for criminal prosecution.
Today V.Khashimi has been extradited to Russia under the escort of the Russian Interpol Bureau and the Federal Penitentiary Service officers.

Extradition of German Citizen Vakhid Khashimi, Charged with Economic Crimes and Crimes against Public Safety Committed in Russia, from Uzbekistan to Russia
