On January 16, 2009, upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Italy extradited Romas Kunskas.
The investigative authorities charged R.Kunskas with the commission of crimes defined by Article 105, part 1 (murder) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The Sverdlovsk District Court of the city of Irkutsk examines the criminal case against R.Kunskas.
The investigative authorities established that on the night of 1st to 2nd January, 2003 Romas Kunskas during the fight with Mr. Mutovin whom he had previously known and disliked, inflicted multiple punches with hands and feet to the latter. Thereafter, R.Kunskas took a factory-made knife at the crime scene and made two stabbing wounds into the chest and face, abdomen and breast of the victim, as the result of which he died.
Having been placed on international wanted list since December 13, 2006, R.Kunskas was apprehended in Rome in June 2007.
On July 11, 2007, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation submitted a relevant request for his extradition to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Italy, which was satisfied in December 2008. R.Kunskas was kept under arrest in view of extradition.
Today R.Kunskas was extradited to Russia under the escort of the Russian Interpol Bureau and the Federal Penitentiary Service officers.

Extradition of Romas Kunskas, Charged with Murder, from Italy to Russia
On January 16, 2009, upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Italy extradited Romas Kunskas.
