A meeting between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika and First Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal Papa Umar Saho has been held today in the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation. Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal Gai Abdulai also participated in the meeting.
In his welcoming address, the Russian Prosecutor General mentioned positive trends in co-operation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Senegal upheld by close positions on major international problems and striving for enhancement of mutually beneficial bilateral relations.
Yuri Chaika during his speech outlined major activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation: protection of human rights and freedoms, supervision over compliance with the Constitution of the Russian Federation and execution of laws, criminal prosecution and other activities. Speaking about international co-operation, in particular - criminal proceedings, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation said that the joint work of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Senegal against crime, terrorism and drug trafficking was one of the main components of partnership of the law-enforcement authorities of the two states.
First Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal Papa Umar Saho thanked Yuri Chaika for his high appraisal of co-operation of the law-enforcement authorities of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Senegal and informed the participants of the meeting of the structure of the Senegalese judicial authorities. Thus, Papa Umar Saho explained that the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal was formed a month ago through merger of the Senegalese Supreme Court of Cassation he had previously chaired, and the State Council.
According to Papa Umar Saho, the experience of the judicial and law-enforcement authorities of the Russian Federation was of primary importance for successful organization and functioning of the legal system of the Republic of Senegal. That is precisely why Papa Umar Saho chose the Russian Federation for his first visit in the capacity of the First Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal.
In conclusion, the parties expressed satisfaction with the meeting having noticed that it was efficient and fruitful for further co-operation. Moreover, the counterparts intend in the near future to elaborate a Co-operation Agreement on the protection of human rights and freedoms of man and citizen, criminal prosecution and on a number of other activities.
