On September 26, 2008, upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of France will extradite Russian citizen Marian Ivanov.
The investigative authorities charged M.Ivanov with crimes defined by Article 222, part 1 (illegal acquisition, storage and bearing of firearms), Article 159, part 2, paras. “a”, “d” (fraud, i.e. misappropriation of someone else’s property committed by means of deceit and abuse of trust by a group of people upon a preliminary conspiracy, inflicting a considerable damage to a citizen), Article 162, part 2, paras. “a”, “b”, “c”, “d” (robbery committed repeatedly by a group of persons upon a preliminary conspiracy, with an illegal entry into a home, use of firearms and objects serving as weapon) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to the results of the judicial examination of the request of the Russian authorities for extradition, M.Ivanov will be extradited to Russia to face criminal prosecution.
The Dzerzhinsky Regional Court of the city of Yaroslavl is inquiring into the criminal case against M.Ivanov and the scope of judicial inquiry will concern the following episodes of the charges laid against him: M.Ivanov in February 1999 together with other persons committed an armed robbery of a commercial enterprise in Yaroslavl upon a preliminary conspiracy
In January 2007, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for extradition of M.Ivanov to the competent authorities of the Republic of France.
Today, M.Ivanov will be extradited to Russia under the escort of the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. This is the third extradition case from France over the last five years. The last two extraditions also took place in 2008.
