The Conference of Prosecutors General of Europe resumed

The Conference of Prosecutors General of Europe chaired by Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika has resumed its work today at the Constantine Palace, St. Petersburg. The topic of the Conference is “The Role of Public Prosecution in the Protection of Human Rights and Public Interests outside the Criminal Law Field”.

Deputy Prosecutor General of Portugal Joao Manuel Da Silva Miguel is expected to be the first to deliver his report on the “protection of human rights and public interests conducted by the prosecution services outside the criminal law system, especially in the field of environment protection, labor law, health care, consumer’s rights”.

Thereafter, Prosecutor General of Celle (Germany), Chairman of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors Harald Range will be given the floor. He will tell the Conference about the “role of public prosecution in the protection of public and state interests in court and other government agencies”.

Prosecutor General of Latvia Janis Maizitis will finalize this part of the Conference by reporting about supervision of the prosecution services on lawfulness of holding persons in custody and execution of criminal sentences.

After these reports, Council of Europe Director General of Human Rights and Legal Affairs Philippe Boillat and Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika are planned to draw conclusions of the Conference.
