- The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation
On March 18, 2008 upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Iraq extradited Armenian citizen Jamal Sloyan charged with a crime committed under Article 105, part 1 (murder) to Russia.
It is noteworthy that in Moscow in April 2006, Jamal Sloyan inflicted bodily injuries on A.O.Sharoyan that caused death of the latter.
After the murder, J.Sloyan escaped from the Russian Federation.
Later on, his whereabouts were established in the Republic of Iraq.
In July 2007 the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation submitted a request to the competent authorities of the Republic of Iraq for extradition of the above-mentioned citizen. In December 2007 the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation was satisfied.
Since there is no direct flight from Iraq to Russia, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation secured the consent of the Jordan competent authorities for a transit flight for J.Sloyan, via the airport of the city of Amman of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
On the 18th of March 2008, the convoy of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Interpol Bureau at the Ministry of Interior of the Russian Federation escorted J.Sloyan to Russia.
It should be noted that extradition of J.Sloyan is the first case of extradition from Iraq, which also serves an example of efficient international co-operation with the law-enforcement authorities of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
