Information on the results of the meeting between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika and Federal Counselor, Head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police of the Swiss Confederation, Christoph Blocher

During the meeting the Heads of the both Offices discussed issues of mutual interest in fighting against crime. They emphasized the importance of joint actions of the Russian and Swiss law-enforcement agencies in combating corruption, transnational organized crime, laundering (legalization) of proceeds of crime, human trafficking, trafficking in counterfeit goods.

Moreover, the counterparts touched on extradition, provision of legal assistance in criminal matters, improvement of interdepartmental co-operation, signature and ratification of multilateral international treaties of interest for both parties. The Swiss party welcomed the Russian initiative on updating the present European Conventions on Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.

Yuri Chaika and Christoph Blocher agreed on the necessity to hold regular consultations, exchange delegations and to sign a separate Agreement on Co-operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and Federal Department of Justice of the Swiss Confederation.

The Agreement is expected to include legal norms ensuring prompt and qualitative execution of international requests for investigation and extradition thus significantly enhancing efficient fight against transnational organized crime.

Both counterparts stated with satisfaction that their bilateral co-operation keeps making progress.
