Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika has met today with the journalists of the leading Russian mass media: representatives of news agencies, print media and television.
Such “unofficial” meeting was held in the Office of Prosecutor General for the first time. The journalists had an opportunity to discuss the most diverse issues with the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation – from difficulties of co-operation of the mass media with the prosecution authorities up to personal issues.
They touched upon reformation of the prosecution authorities and discussed the policy of openness and transparency in their activities, improvement of co-operation with the mass media.
Yuri Chaika introduced a “renewed” structure of the Central Office of the Prosecutor General’s Office to the journalists having drawn their attention to its new divisions. In particular, they spoke about the Department for Supervision over Observance of the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens, the Division for Supervision over the Execution of Law on International Relationships and the Departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office in the federal districts. Yuri Chaika noted that their creation would ensure more efficient work including handling of applications of citizens.
The Russian Prosecutor General expressed his opinion that those journalists who specialized in legal sphere should weight the materials they publish and use only verified information avoiding publishing various speculations misleading the public and hindering the investigation of criminal cases.
In general, they had an exciting interchange of opinions.
Yuri Chaika emphasized the importance of holding such meetings on a regular basis. He assured the journalists that the prosecution authorities would further improve co-operation with the media.
