Russia extradited to Cambodia a man accused of extorting over 2 million US dollars from a victim

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has satisfied the request of the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Cambodia to extradite Heng Sithy to face criminal liability for blackmail with aggravating circumstances under Articles 372, 374 of the Criminal Code of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The criminal case against him is pending before the court.

According to the documents submitted, from November 17 to 22, 2024, in the territory of the Kingdom of Cambodia, he extorted money in the amount of 2 million US dollars from the victim using the Internet.

On December 3, 2024, the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Cambodia issued an arrest warrant for the accused, and he was put on the wanted list.

By the decision of the St. Petersburg City Court, upheld by the appellate court, the decision of the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia to extradite the accused was recognized as lawful.

Heng Sithy is a citizen of the Kingdom of Cambodia. According to the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, he has not acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation.

The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, in cooperation with the National Central Bureau of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, handed over the accused to their Cambodian colleagues at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg.
