Today, on 14 June 2016, a meeting was held in the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika and the President of the State Council of the Italian Republic Alessandro Pajno.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Gutsan, heads of structural divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia and the State Council of the Italian Republic.
Yury Chaika briefed the guests on the tasks, structure and system of work arrangement of the Prosecution Service of the Russian Federation.
In his presentation he stressed that the activities of the Russian Prosecution Service are aimed at ensuring the rule of law, protection of human rights and freedoms, interests of society and the state. In addition, the prosecution service coordinates the work of all Russian law enforcement authorities in combating crime.
He underlined that the Prosecution Service is the main federal body of state power that fights corruption at all levels, from identification of corruptogenic elements in draft enactments to addressing the issue on compensating damages caused by the relevant offences.
The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation emphasized that prosecutors devote a great deal of attention to sharing their experience and best practices with foreign partners. For this purpose, prosecutors actively interact with Italian colleagues both on international and bilateral basis, in the framework of the existing agreements on cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the National Anti-mafia and Anti-terrorism Department of Italy.
During the meeting the discussion also focused on the interaction between the judges and state prosecutors, on the issues related to administrative and criminal proceedings and compensation of the damage caused to the state budget.
In his turn, the President of the State Council of the Italian Republic Alessandro Pajno thanked Yury Chaika for the reception, and informed about the activities of the State Council, about its place and role in the judicial system of the Italian Republic.
