The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia continues cooperation with the competent authorities of the EU Member-States in the matters within its purview

A working meeting with the representatives of the Federal Criminal Police Office at the German Embassy in Russia was held in the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation. This meeting was made possible due the consistent work of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia on strengthening efficient interaction with the competent authorities of the EU Member-States in the matters within its purview.

The Parties commended the existing level of cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia and the law enforcement authorities of the FRG in the area of extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

During the event, urgent issues of mutual legal assistance in high-profile criminal matters were addressed for which the solution has been found.

The participants agreed to continue regular contacts on the basis of the current bilateral agreements, including the interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental treaties.

Earlier in April 2016, the first working meeting was held with the representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Italian Republic, in the framework of the Treaty on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia and the Ministry of Justice of the Italian Republic, signed by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika and the Minister of Justice of the Italian Republic Paolo Severino, in July 2012.

The meeting addressed the state of cooperation in criminal matters, the existing problems and the ways to resolve them. The participants familiarized themselves with the peculiarities of the Russian and Italian legislation both in the area of extradition and legal assistance, exchanged views on raising efficiency and effectiveness of collaboration.

As a result of the meeting agreements were reached on expeditious exchange of information in the criminal justice area, on accelerating the examination of requests for legal assistance, on organization of search of individuals absconding from the investigation in the territory of Italy, and taking into custody the persons requested for extradition.

It was agreed, with regard to certain criminal matters, to expedite the execution of Russian requests for extradition and legal assistance by Italian competent authorities.

The working meeting participants agreed to maintain permanent working contacts and hold working meetings as appropriate.
