In the city of Saint-Petersburg it was held a meeting of the Coordination Council of the general prosecutors of the states - members of the Commonwealth of Independent States

Today, on May 15, 2012 in the Konstantinovsky Palace (Saint-Petersburg) under the chairmanship of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka it was held an extraordinary session of the Coordinating Council of the general prosecutors of the states - members of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The work of the session was attended by the heads of the General Prosecutor's offices of the republics of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, the Ukraine as well as by the Chairman of the Executive Committee - the CIS Executive Secretary, the Secretary General of the Council of the inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states and the Executive Secretary of the CCGP of the CIS.

It is necessary to emphasize that the cooperation of the Prosecutor's offices, in the framework of the established Coordination Council of General Prosecutors of the states-members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CCGP CIS) in 1995 by the joint decision of the Prosecutor Generals of the states - members of the CIS, allows implementing a complex of measures aimed at strengthening of legislation and the regulations of law.

The main tasks of CCGP of the CIS are: coordination of functions, expansion of cooperation of the prosecutor’s offices of the CIS member - states in protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, strengthening of legislation and law enforcement in the struggle against criminality, development of proposals for rapprochement of national legislation, participation in the development of agreemental-legal base of the CIS.

At present the prosecutor's offices of the states - members of the Commonwealth tie up multilateral agreements on cooperation in the fight against terrorism and other manifestations of extremism, in the fight against corruption, trafficking of human beings, human organs and tissues as well as in the sphere of protection of the rights and legitimate interests of underaged persons. In the framework of the implementation of the above mentioned agreements, the bilateral and multilateral meetings, consultations of specialists on problematic issues, the meetings of the bodies of the prosecutor's offices are conducted to resolve issues arising during consideration of requests for extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.

Moreover, the agreements provide for the international scientifically-practical conferences, «round tables» and seminars on the most topical issues of the prosecutor's activities, joint work on projects of international and intergovernmental agreements on the issues of prevention of criminality, exchange of statistical information and methodological materials, trainings and improvement of professional skills of the personnel.

Since 2006, more than 13 thousand of extradition requests for criminal prosecution or execution of sentences have been sent to the competent authorities of the states - members of the CIS and received from the colleagues from the CIS for consideration by the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation. Withing the same period about 15 thousands of requests for legal assistance have been sent abroad, 60% out of them to the states - members of the CIS. It was organized fulfilment of 16 thousand requests from the competent authorities of foreign countries for legal assistance in criminal matters, 70% out of them are the requests from the countries of the CIS.

For the purpose of scientific-methodical provision of the activities of the CCGP, researching of actual problems of the struggle against criminality and prosecutor's supervision it was created a Scientific-Methodical Centre of CCGP (SMC CCGP) acting on the basis of the Academy of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation. For years of functioning of the Center more than 25 international legal documents have been developed in the sphere of struggle against organized criminality including a Model criminal code for the CIS member states, model laws about prosecutor's office and about the fight against corruption.

Taking into consideration the importance of conserving and developing of the best traditions in the organs and institutions of the prosecutor's office there have been taken steps for establishment of cooperation between the veteran organizations of the bodies of the prosecutor's offices of the states - members of the CIS. In this regard, the General Prosecutors approved an Honorary badge and a medal of the CCGP of the CIS as a fact of recognition of services of the officers and veterans as well as of the employees of functioning structures of the CIS which are carrying out their activities in the sphere of law enforcement.

In the framework of the event there were held a number of bilateral meetings. In particular, at the meeting of general prosecutors of Russia and the Ukraine it was signed a Programme for cooperation of the prosecutor's offices of the two countries for the years of 2012 and 2013.
