It was signed a Program of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Korea for the years of 2011-2012

Today in the framework of the official visit of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to the Republic of Korea in the city of Seoul it was held a meeting of General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Korea Jun-Gyu Kim.

 

The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation highly appreciated the cooperation with the competent bodies of the Republic of Korea, first of all in the sphere of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters including the ones on the basis of the Agreement on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Korea signed in 2007.

 

Yury Chayka noted that the Prosecutor's office of Russia and the Republic of Korea effectively communicate not only in a bilateral format but also in the framework of various international organizations, particularly in the International Association of prosecutors. He stressed that the joint efforts of the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Korea Jun-Gyu Kim as the Vice-President of this organization and the Deputy of the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev who was elected in September of this year into the composition of the Executive Committee of the organization will help to improve the efficiency of the international cooperation in the struggling against criminality in ensuring the Prosecutor's activities and implementation of the goals of this organization.

 

The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation also thanked Jun-Gyu Kim for the invitation to take part in the 16th annual conference of the International Association of prosecutors and the 4th world summit of general prosecutors which will be held in 2011 in Seoul and confirmed the participation of Russian prosecutors in the mentioned events.

 

Moreover, in order to implement the Agreement on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Korea in the course of the meeting there was signed a Program of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Korea for the years of 2011-2012.

 

It is planned by the program so-called "round tables", seminars and meetings of experts on issues of interaction of bodies of the Prosecutor's office of Russia and Korea in the field of counteraction to corruption, provision of legal assistance in criminal matters, counteraction to illegal turnover of narcotic means, usage of the Internet for criminal purposes, the exchange of experiences on the issues related to struggling against human trafficking, organized trans-boundary criminality, crimes of extremist and terrorist orientation as well as the exchange of departmental and scientific publications and also methodical materials on the basic directions of activity of bodies and institutions of the Prosecutor's offices of two countries.

 

The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation noted that carrying out of joint activities foreseen by the Program would improve the effectiveness of our activities in the field of protection of the rights and freedoms of a man and a citizen as well as in the sphere of struggling against criminality.

 

Yury Chayka expressed confidence that today's meeting would contribute to the development of our relations and to strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
