Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika has met today in Moscow with Prosecutor General of the Slovak Republic Dobroslav Trnka.
In his speech of welcome, Yuri Chaika underlined that one of the main components of partnership between Russia and the Slovak Republic was the intensity of political dialogue and positive dynamics of cooperation between the Russian and Slovak law-enforcement authorities in the fight against crime.
The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation acquainted his Slovak colleagues with the recent development of the system of the prosecution authorities of Russia and stressed its enlarging participation in international cooperation.
Yuri Chaika has highly appreciated positive mutual relations of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Slovak Republic in the field of cooperation on extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
In his turn, the Prosecutor General of the Slovak Republic expressed his gratitude to Yuri Chaika for warm welcome and said that he would be glad to enhance cooperation. He underlined that at present both agencies cooperated on the basis of the agreement signed in 2002 but that agreement, in the opinion of the Prosecutor General, was “a framework agreement”. Dobroslav Trnka stressed that closer cooperation would be helpful for both sides because the Russians and the Slovaks had “common genetic roots”.
Both sides expressed their readiness to develop a program of cooperation ensuring specific activities to exchange experience in the field of fight against crime and the protection of human rights and freedoms.
At the end of the meeting Yuri Chaika invited Dobroslav Trnka to take part in the Conference of the European Prosecutors General, which would take place in Saint Petersburg, July 2008. The Conference would be dedicated to the role of the Prosecution Service in the protection of human rights and public interests outside criminal field.
