A meeting between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov and the Minister of Justice of the Arab Republic of Egypt Omar Marwan was held in Cairo today.

In the course of the event, Igor Krasnov expressed gratitude for supporting the initiative to hold the meeting. He noted that the Russian-Egyptian relations are dynamically developing in various directions, including cooperation in the field of law. “Your participation in the International Legal Forum in Saint Petersburg this month is a strong indication of that,” Igor Krasnov said. – I read your report on protection of human rights with great interest”.

The head of the Russian supervisory agency noted that the prosecution service of Russia, on the one hand, being the authority of the supreme supervision over the execution of laws in the country, plays the key role in ensuring citizens’ rights and freedoms. “Therefore, the powers of our agencies in the said area significantly overlap,” – the Prosecutor General of Russia emphasized. – Also similar is the competence to perform the functions of central authorities in international legal cooperation, including in issues of extradition of individuals for criminal prosecution”.

As Igor Krasnov noted, it is important that criminals hiding illicit profits in foreign jurisdictions have no chance to escape punishment taking advantage of differences in the legal systems of states and lack of joint actions of competent authorities.

“I know that the Ministry of Justice of Egypt pays much attention to issues of digital transformation of justice,” the Prosecutor General of Russia said. – We carry out similar work in prosecutorial activities. I am confident that exchange of experience in this sphere could become another vector of our mutually beneficial cooperation”.

The head of the Russian supervisory agency told about work of the University of the Prosecution Service which has a significant educational potential and carries out broad scientific research work on legal issues.

In that regard, Igor Krasnov suggested developing a mechanism of constant working interaction in the noted and other areas between the two agencies. “Its legal basis can be provided by a relevant agreement and a program of joint activities similar to those we have concluded and are implementing with the Public Prosecution Office of the Arab Republic of Egypt,” – the Prosecutor General of Russia noted.

In conclusion, Igor Krasnov expressed his conviction that the Russian-Egyptian cooperation in the law enforcement sphere has a significant potential: “With our joint efforts, we can make a visible contribution to the process of building a peaceful and safe future”.
