The 26th meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of Member-States of the CIS ended in Minsk

Today, on 7 September 2016, the 26th meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of Member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS CCPG) ended in Minsk (Republic of Belarus).

The event was chaired by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation - Chairman of the CIS CCPG Yury Chaika, who heads the Russian delegation.

The meeting was also attended by the Attorney General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamran Bayram oglu Aliyev, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Emil Babayan, Attorney General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakip Asanov, Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic Indira Dzholdubaeva, Deputy of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova Yuri Garaba, First Deputy of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Tajikistan Hotham Nazarzoda, Executive Secretary of the CCPG, Leonid Ermolaev.

The Russian delegation shared its experience in the field of protection of the rights of minors in the pre-trial stage of the criminal proceedings and the practice of prosecutorial supervision in this area.

Thus, the participants shared their experiences of prosecutorial activities in combating corruption, discussed supervisory practices in the field of protection of human rights of the citizens, in particular those who are staying outside the territories of CIS member-states, as well as the implementation of international treaties of CIS member-states.

In addition, the parties discussed the issues of crime combating, drug trafficking, countering extremist and terrorist manifestations, discussed measures of prosecutorial supervision over the investigation of economic crimes committed in the economic sphere and exchanged experience in combating economic crimes, the rule of law during the election period as well as combating organized criminal groups and extremist organizations that threaten international security.

The analytical report and a summary report “Information on the State of Crime, Investigative, Prosecutorial Activities, Practice, Implementation of International Treaties in the sphere of Crime Combating” in the CIS member states for 2015 was also approved.

The participants in the meeting discussed other current issues and adopted a number of decisions aimed at developing inter-agency cooperation.

During the event, the Prosecutor General of Russia Yuri Chaika delivered a statement dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. He urged his colleagues to take measures for its dissemination and expressed confidence that it will help curb the cynical attempts to falsify history and to place victims and executioners on an equal footing and to present Nazis and their henchmen as heroes.

Yuri Chaika bestowed the “Rudenko Medal” award established by the Prosecution Service of the Russian Federation for this memorable date in 2015, to the Attorney General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk for his contribution to the strengthening the rule of law and deepening the international legal cooperation.

By decision of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the Member-States of the Commonwealth of Independent States the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika was re-elected its Chairman.

The next meeting of the CIS CCPG will be held in the Russian Federation in 2017.

Within the framework of the international meeting, Yuri Chaika, Prosecutor General of Russia held bilateral talks with the heads of prosecution services attending the meeting, where the topical issues of interagency cooperation were discussed.
