Today, June 16, 2015, a meeting was held at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation between Yury Chayka, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, and Chan Byung Kyu, Supreme Prosecutor of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The meeting was also attended by senior officials of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation, Kim Hyun Joon.
In his welcome speech, Mr Chayka noted the friendly relations between Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea based on their mutual interest for strengthening international security and developing a strategic partnership.
Mr Chayka commended the cooperation between the prosecutor’s offices of both countries in key areas under the Agreement on Cooperation concluded between the prosecutor’s offices of the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in December 2010.
In addition, as Mr Chayka noted that a meeting was held in Pyongyang last June between representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of the DPRK. Mutually useful sharing of experience between the parties was held on the issues of organizing activities in the priority areas. And last September, the representatives of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of the DPRK participated in a multilateral international seminar organized by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation in Vladivostok on cooperation in the field of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
Chan Byung Kyu thanked Mr Chayka for the reception and expressed hope for promoting mutual contacts and exchanging information, including with regard to legalizing the North Korean companies and the citizens working in Russia.
He emphasized that prosecutors of the DPRK would like to examine modern methods of supervising operations in special economic zones, and learn more about legal education and professional training for prosecution bodies.
Chan Byung Kyu also spoke highly of the level of cooperation between the prosecution offices of both countries under the Agreement in force.
Mr Chayka expressed confidence that the meeting would contribute to the progressive development of cooperation between the two states in the field of human rights protection and the prevention of transnational organized crime.
