In Croatia it was held a meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCom) of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP). The work of the meeting was attended by representatives of 24 countries (Australia, England, Canada, China, Russia, the USA, South Africa and others).

The Russian Federation was represented by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev who, since September of 2010, has been a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the IAP which unites 146 countries.

In the course of the meeting there were heard the reports on the activities of the IAP, its leaders and members of the Executive Committee of the IAP and it was approved the work plan for the year of 2012, new members were accepted into the Association, and also a number of current problems were solved.

But the main intrigue of the last session was the issue of determining the place of the 18th Annual conference and General Assembly of the IAP in 2013.

Russia for the first time submitted an application for conducting this Conference.

Prosecutor's forum of such magnitude in the world will be conducted for the first time. It is expected that the Conference will be attended by delegations of prosecutors from approximately 150 countries as well as by the leaders of numerous authoritative international organizations such as the UN, the Council of Europe and others.

Presentation of the Russian application was carried out by a member of the Executive Committee - the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev who answered numerous questions of the meeting participants after his report.

In the concluding final stage of consideration of the applications for carrying out a Conference, the General Assembly and the Executive Committee of the IAP in 2013 Russia and Ireland concurred. In this connection it should be noted that the IAP for already 5 years has been headed by its President, an authoritative prosecutor’s official who for many years was at the lead of the General Prosecutor's office of Ireland, a member of the Venice Commission, Lord James Hamilton.

After long and circumstantial discussions in the course of a secret ballot by an absolute majority of the votes of the members of the Executive Committee of the IAP the preference was given to Russia. It was decided that the 18th Annual Conference, the General Assembly and the Executive Committee of the IAP will take place in the city of Moscow in September 2013.

Following the example of Russia, the Executive Committee of the IAP accepted a decision on establishing of the International Prosecutor’s Day - the 6th of June (the day of foundation of the IAP) as well. Let's remind that in the Russian Federation - the Day of a Prosecutor's officer of the Russian Federation is celebrated on January 12 - on the day of its foundation by Peter the 1st.

The IAP is the first and an only worldwide organization uniting prosecutors and working under the auspices of the UN. The Russian Prosecutor's office stood at the origins of foundation of the Association in 1995 and actively participates in its work.
