It was signed a Programme of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the General Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Cuba for the years of 2012 and 2013

Today in the General Prosecutor’s office of Russia it was held a meeting of the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation Juan Valdes Figueroa.

 

Welcoming the guest, Alexander Zvyagintsev emphasized that Russia and Cuba have been tied with long-term friendly and warm relations, based on mutual interest in strengthening of international security and increasing of the strategic partnership. It has been implemented an active cooperation not only in a bilateral format but also in the framework of international organizations such as, for example, the United Nations. Moreover, it was stressed by Alexander Zvyagintsev, the positions of the two countries have a lot of points of contact on many international issues, and particularly in the law enforcement sphere.

 

In the course of the meeting it was signed a Programme of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the General Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Cuba for the years of 2012 and 2013.

 

The document was prepared in the framework of the Agreement on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the General Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Cuba which was signed in Moscow in October 2011 by the General Prosecutors of Russia and Cuba.

 

The programme provides for carrying out a number of joint meetings and seminars targeted towards exchanging of experiences and improvement of professional skills of the personnel of the prosecutor's organs of the two countries.

 

So, in May of this year in the city of Moscow the Programme provides for carrying out a meeting aimed at introducing with the structure, powers and organization of work of the organs and institutions of the prosecutor's offices of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cuba as well as carrying out a seminar on the theme: «The activities of the organs of the prosecutor's offices of Russia and Cuba in the sphere of counteraction to corruption».

 

In October of this year in the city of Havana it is scheduled carrying out a seminar on the issues of extradition and rendering of legal assistance in criminal matters, including the issues of arrest, confiscation and return of assets obtained in the result of corruption, and it is scheduled a meeting aimed at discussion of topical issues of counteraction to crimes of a terrorist nature and to strengthening of international cooperation in this sphere.

 

For the year of 2013, the Programme also provides for carrying out a number of meetings and workshops, including on the issues related to struggling against human trafficking, illicit trafficking of narcotic substances and legalization of incomes obtained by criminal way.

 

Besides carrying out the above mentioned events, the representatives of the prosecutor's offices of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cuba agreed to exchange information on the main directions of the activities of their organs and institutions as well as on the priorities of the state policy in the development and implementation of which they are involved.

 

Alexander Zvyagintsev emphasized that these and other events foreseen by the Programme are aimed at strengthening and development of mutual cooperation in the sphere of protection of human rights and fighting against criminality.

 

In his turn, Juan Valdes Figueroa thanked Alexander Zvyagintsev for the reception and noted the importance and timeliness of signing of the Programme for cooperation.

 

In conclusion, the Deputy of the Prosecutor General confirmed from his side and on behalf of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation's their firm focusing towards all-round deepening and development of Russian-Cuban relations.
