Today in the city of Moscow a meeting of General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Yuri Chayka and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Russian Federation Ulrich Brandenburg took place..
The meeting was also attended by senior officers of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation.
Welcoming the guest, the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation noted that the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Germany are tied up with friendly relations based on mutual interest in strengthening of democracy, international peace and security. "We actively cooperate with the competent authorities of Germany on the issues of extradition and legal assistance in criminal cases", - emphasized Yuri Chayka.
From 2009 till the present time the Russian Federation received 231 requests from the competent authorities of Germany on legal assistance in criminal cases. The Russian side in its turn appealed to the German colleagues 279 times with the requests of assistance in the investigations. These figures demonstrate mutual willingness to cooperation.
However, the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation noted that this work needs strengthening and adoption of new mutually beneficial agreements at the level of the competent authorities of two countries.
In his reply, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Russian Federation assured that he, in the limits of his competence, will provide full support to the international legal cooperation of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation with the bodies of justice of Germany.
In conclusion, the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of Germany for assistance in contacts with German colleagues. He highly appreciated the cooperation with the competent authorities of Germany and assured in the firm focusing on all-round deepening and development of relations with the colleagues from Germany.
