In the General Prosecutor’s office of the Russian Federation it will be held a two-day Russian-Korean seminar

Today in the General Prosecutor's office of Russia it was held a meeting of the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and General Prosecutor of the Republic of Korea Kim Jun Gyu. The meeting was held in the eve of the two-day Russian-Korean seminar, which will be held on March 1-2 of this year in the format of a "round table" in the General Prosecutor’s office of Russia. The meeting was also attended by senior officers of the General Prosecutor's offices of the two countries, the Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Russian Federation.

 

In his opening speech Yury Chayka thanked Kim Jun Gyu for the warm welcome and hospitality shown to the delegation of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation in the course of the visit to Seoul in November 2010 where it was signed a Program of interdepartmental cooperation for the years of 2011-2012.

 

Yury Chayka noted that the holding of the "round table" will be the first of the events foreseen by the Program. It will be devoted to discussion of the issues about the place, role, competence and structure of the Prosecutor's offices of Russia and the Republic of Korea. In the course of the "round table" the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Korea, the first Deputy General Prosecutor of Russia, heads of structural subdivisions of the General Prosecutor's office of Russia and representatives of the Supreme Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Korea will report with their speeches. The participants of the forum during two days will exchange their opinions on the issues of struggling against corruption and extremism, organization of supervision over the preliminary investigation, inquest and operative-investigative activities as well as the non-judicial functions of the Prosecutor's office, legal assistance and competence in the area of extradition, participation of prosecutors in court.

 

The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation stressed that such events provide opportunities to exchange experiences of the solving of different types of problems which prosecution officers are facing every day, that undoubtedly have a positive impact on the efficiency of work in the field of protection of citizens' rights, the struggling against criminality and strengthening of legitimacy.

 

In his turn the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Korea highly appreciated the development of interdepartmental cooperation and noted that one of the priority directions of the partnership of the Republic of Korea and Russia is the interaction of law-and-order bodies in the struggle against criminality. Kim Jun Gyu, noted that such regular meetings contribute to the strengthening of relations and mutual understanding between these two institutions.

 

According to the Program of interdepartmental cooperation in 2011 it is planned to carry out two more joint events, devoted to the issues of struggle against illegal drugs trafficking, human trafficking, organized criminality and also the questions of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
