It has been signed the Memorandum on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's offices of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Poland

Today in the framework of the official visit of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to the Republic of Poland in the city of Warsaw it was held a meeting of the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and General Prosecutor of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Seremet.

 

The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation noted the constructive and business character of bilateral relations of the Russian and Polish Prosecutor's offices that established in the last time.

 

Yury Chayka noted that to the great regret one of the reasons for the activation of cooperation was a tragic event, that was the crush in April 2010 near Smolensk of the aircraft of the President of the Republic of Poland. The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation informed that to the Polish Prosecutor's office there were transferred 28 volumes of materials of fulfilled requests for legal assistance on the given criminal case and expressed confidence that a thorough investigation of the catastrophe both in Russia and in Poland will allow establishing of all the circumstances and the reasons of the incident.

 

In addition the participants of the meeting discussed the joint work on the so-called "Katyn case". The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation noted that in 2005 the Polish side was familiarized with 67 volumes of this criminal case. In the current year the process of exchange of information regarding this case was carried on. The copies of a significant part of the materials were transferred to the competent authorities of Poland. Particularly in May of this year the General Prosecutor's office of Russia transferred to the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the Russian Federation 67 volumes of the investigation, in September additionally 20 volumes, in the beginning of December 50 volumes were transferred.

 

The parties also discussed the issues of interaction in the field of protection of human rights, struggling against terrorism and achievement of practical results in the sphere of fighting against criminality as well as the extradition of persons put in the international search.

In addition during the meeting the parties signed a Memorandum on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the General Prosecutor's office of the Republic of Poland. The document stipulates the holding of conferences, seminars and consultations with the aim of sharing of experiences gained in the framework of their activities, information on national legal systems and legislation, improvement of the efficiency of execution of requests for legal assistance as well as the exchange of national experiences of the fight against organized criminality, terrorism, corruption and other crimes.

 

Yury Chayka emphasized that the Memorandum will become one more tool for further improving of the efficiency of Russian-Polish cooperation in the field of protection of human rights and achieving of practical results in the sphere of fighting against criminality.
