At the invitation of Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika, Prosecutor General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Julián Isaías Rodríguez paid an official visit to Moscow to discuss interagency co-operation.

Today, during the meeting at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, in which Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Russian Federation Alexis Rafael Navarro Rojas has also took part, while welcoming the guests, Yuri Chaika noted that the exchange of experience between the two Offices will enable both countries to improve the level of training and qualification of officers of the prosecution authorities.

In his turn, Isaías Rodríguez thanked the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation for his invitation to visit Russia. He noted that the experience of the Russian prosecution authorities could be very helpful for the law-enforcement bodies of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. “Our Prosecution Service is much younger, noted Mr. Rodríguez. It was founded in 1961; therefore, it is certainly useful for us to exchange the experience with the Russian Prosecution Service, which was founded in 1722”. The Prosecutor General of Venezuela also underlined that he had been preparing for that visit for a long time and the main purpose of his visit was to strengthen relations between the law-enforcement authorities of two countries.

Following the results of the talks, the Agreement on Co-operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has been signed.

The document provides for arrangement of expert meetings to study the structure, functions and organization of work of the prosecution authorities and institutions of these two countries, the exchange of experience in training and professional development of officers, organization of workshops, round tables, exchange of departmental and scientific publications and also methodical materials on major prosecutorial activities.

Within the framework of the Agreement, Russia and Venezuela co-operate in the field of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters including by means of consultations on legal issues during preparation and consideration of particular requests.

At the end of the meeting, Yuri Chaika noted that the Agreement would serve as a legal basis for mutual co-operation between the two Prosecutor General’s Offices. The document “will enable us to co-ordinate our positions in the fight against crime, terrorism and in other law-enforcement activities”, underlined the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation.

During his visit to Russia, the Prosecutor General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is also planning to meet with the head of the Ministry of the Interior and the head of the Federal Penal Enforcement Service of Russia.
