At the invitation of Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika, Supreme State Prosecutor of the Republic of Montenegro Mrs. Vesna Medenica paid an official visit to discuss interdepartmental co-operation.
Today during the meeting at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Yuri Chaika has noted that the exchange of experience between the two Offices would enable both countries to enhance the level of training and qualification of officers of the prosecution authorities. Yuri Chaika has also underlined that mutual visits of the heads of the law-enforcement authorities of Russia and Montenegro would promote prosecutorial and investigative activities of these two countries aimed at combating organized crime, drug trafficking, corruption and terrorism.
In her turn, Mrs. Vesna Medenica thanked the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation for the invitation to visit Russia. She noted that the experience of the prosecution authorities of the Russian Federation could be very helpful for the law-enforcement authorities of the Republic of Montenegro.
During the meeting Yuri Chaika and Vesna Medenica discussed the fight against organized crime, investigation of crimes by the prosecution authorities including corruption.
The talks resulted in signing the Program of Co-operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Montenegro for 2007-2008.
The document provides for arrangement of expert meetings to study the structure, functions and organization of work of the prosecution authorities and institutions of these two countries, exchange of experience in training and professional development of officers, organization of workshops, round tables, exchange of prosecutorial and scientific publications and also methodical materials on major prosecutorial activities.
Let us recall that in September 2006 in the city of Podgorica (the Republic of Montenegro) the bilateral Agreement on Co-operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Montenegro was signed, in implementation of which the said Program was signed.
