Text

Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika has met today with State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice of Finland Mrs. Kirsti Rissanen in the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

While welcoming the honoured guest and the delegation from the Republic of Finland, Yuri Chaika noted that close co-operation between Russia and Finland in the international legal field was of a long-lasting and constructive character thus exercising a salutary influence over relations between the two countries.

He underlined that the Memorandum on Understanding signed between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Finland last year in Helsinki ensuring improvement of mutual assistance in criminal matters and extradition of persons for prosecution gave a fresh impetus to their joint activities.

In her turn, Mrs. Kirsti Rissanen thanked Yuri Chaika for efficient co-operation and his personal significant contribution to the EU-Russia Road Map.

During the meeting, Yuri Chaika and Kirsti Rissanen discussed further development of interdepartmental co-operation, aspects of the activities of public prosecutors of Finland and Russia, and participation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation in the Finnish-Russian Anti-Corruption Project, within the framework of which a workshop with participation of experts from the Ministry of Justice of Finland and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia would be organized this year in May.

The main goals of the Project are to enhance interdepartmental contacts of anti-corruption authorities and to study the law-enforcement practice of Russia and Finland.
