In August of last year, the Labytnangi City Court in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District refused to grant a request filed by a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan to transfer him to his home country to serve his sentence. The court had convicted him of attempted illegal drug trafficking under Article 30, Part 3 and of Article 228.1, Part 3, subparagraphs "a" and "b" of the Russian Criminal Code.
At the initiative of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the prosecutor's office of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District filed a cassation appeal against the trial court's ruling. After the supervisory authority intervened, the Seventh Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction overturned the ruling and sent the case back for a new hearing. The lower court then found that the conditions and procedures for executing the Russian court's sentence in the foreign country were comparable.
The court's decision has entered into force.
The supervisory authority continues to monitor all issues relating to the execution of this judicial decision.

Russian Prosecutor General's Office Secures Transfer of Foreign National to Serve Criminal Sentence in His Home Country
