The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic has rendered a default judgment in the criminal case against 31-year-old national of the Kingdom of Sweden Nils Daniel Dahlgren. He was found guilty under Article 359, Parts 1 and 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (training of a mercenary, participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict).
It was established that in July 2023, Dahlgren arrived in Ukraine, where he voluntarily joined the International Legion, and was provided with firearms and ammunition. Until October 2025, he took part in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and also trained mercenaries in mine and explosive ordnance handling and combat tactics. Subsequently, these skills were used against servicemen of the Russian Federation.
The amount of remuneration received by the mercenary exceeded 2.4 million rubles.
Dahlgren has been placed on the international wanted list, and a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention was imposed upon him in absentia by the court.
Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, Dahlgren was sentenced in absentia to 17 years of imprisonment, to be served in a strict-regime correctional colony.
