Default Judgment Rendered in Criminal Case Against Mercenary from France
Text

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic has rendered a default judgment in the criminal case against 40-year-old citizen of the French Republic Jonathan David Jacques Delporte. He was found guilty under Article 359, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict).

It was established that in March 2022, Delporte arrived in Ukraine and joined the ranks of the International Legion as a mercenary. At training bases, he underwent military training and was provided with personal firearms, ammunition, uniforms and special equipment. In July 2022, he left the zone of armed conflict.

In the spring of 2023, Delporte returned again to the territory of Ukraine, where he signed a contract and, as a mercenary within the International Legion, took part in hostilities against Russian servicemen until January 2026.

For the entire period of participation in the armed conflict, the mercenary received remuneration in excess of 2.8 million rubles.

Delporte has been placed on the international wanted list, and a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention was imposed upon him in absentia by the court.

Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, Delporte was sentenced in absentia by the court to 15 years of imprisonment, to be served in a strict-regime correctional colony.
