As part of the implementation of the joint action plan of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus, a roundtable was held on the theme of “Legal and Practical Aspects of Enforcing Foreign Judgments”.
The event, conducted via videoconference, was aimed at improving international cooperation in the transfer of foreign nationals to serve sentences in their countries of origin.
The head of the unit for supervising the legality of criminal sentence enforcement of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia noted the successful implementation of the developed mechanisms and highly praised the potential of the established contacts.
During a productive discussion, representatives of specialized units from both countries shared accumulated experience and identified priority areas of activity. Solutions to problematic issues were discussed, including those arising under the ratified agreement between the countries on the procedure for mutual enforcement of judicial decisions. The importance of direct dialogue was emphasized.
Specific recommendations were formulated following the event. Their implementation will help improve the level of lawfulness and efficiency of decision-making, ensure the rights of persons serving sentences, and achieve the ultimate goal of rehabilitation.
