Text

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic has handed down an in‑absentia sentence in the criminal case against Castillo Elio Cordoba, a 49‑year‑old citizen of the Republic of Peru. He was found guilty under Article 359, Part 3 (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The court established that in the autumn of 2023, Cordoba entered Ukraine through a Polish border checkpoint, where he underwent military training, was given firearms, and until March 2026 took part in combat operations as part of the International Legion and the 475th Separate Assault Regiment of the Ukrainian Ground Forces against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Donetsk People's Republic.

For these actions, the mercenary received material remuneration of more than 1.5 million rubles.

Cordoba has been placed on the international wanted list, and the court imposed on him in absentia a preventive measure of detention.

Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced Cordoba in absentia to 14 years of imprisonment in a strict‑regime correctional colony.
