On 7-8 September, Irkutsk hosted the fourth meeting of the working group of the Prosecutor Generals' Offices of Russia and Mongolia. The key topic was cooperation in the field of environmental protection, in particular the protection of the ecosystems of the Selenga River and Lake Baikal.

The meeting was attended by the prosecutor's offices of Irkutsk Region, the Republic of Buryatia, the Baikal Interregional Environmental Prosecutor's Office, the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office, and the Irkutsk Law Institute (branch) of the University of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation.

Representatives of the supervisory agencies discussed issues of combating violations of environmental legislation, conservation of aquatic biological resources, and protection of forests from fires and illegal logging.

The practical part of the program included two field sessions.

In the waters of Lake Baikal, together with the Angara-Baikal Territorial Administration of Federal Agency for Fisheries, participants studied methods of suppressing illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources, including during the spawning period of the Baikal omul.

At the base of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Zapovednoe Pribaikalye," experts demonstrated methods of forest fire safety control and methods of identifying and suppressing the destruction of forest plantations.

This format allows for the exchange of experience and the development of new approaches to combating cross-border environmental offenses.

In addition to the official program, the delegations honored the memory of heroes who fell for the Motherland at the Eternal Flame of Glory and met with Mongolian students of the Irkutsk Law Institute (branch) of the University of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation.

The result of the meeting was the determination of vectors for further cooperation to improve the effectiveness of prosecutorial supervision in the Selenga basin and the Baikal natural territory.
