Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov has arrived in Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand.

Igor Krasnov began his working visit with a meeting with Attorney General of the Kingdom of Thailand Naree Tantasathien.

Welcoming her foreign colleague, the Prosecutor General of Russia congratulated her on her appointment to a high post and wished her success in solving public tasks for the benefit of the people of Thailand. Igor Krasnov expressed his gratitude for the invitation to Bangkok, a city that is called the "eternal treasure", as well as for the warm welcome of the Russian delegation.

The head of the Russian supervisory agency said that bilateral relations between Russia and Thailand are developing in a positive way, including law enforcement cooperation. He stressed that both countries are facing similar criminal threats, many of which have acquired a cross-border nature and have gone far beyond national jurisdictions. In particular, the Prosecutor General of Russia mentioned cybercrime, illegal circulation of cryptocurrencies, extremism, and terrorism.

“This year, an extradition agreement has been approved in our countries, and its signing is being prepared,” Igor Krasnov noted. “I am sure that the implementation of the relevant agreements will help to strengthen mutually beneficial contacts in the field of extradition of criminals and, in general, ensure justice.”

The head of the Russian delegation said that he fully shared the position of his Thai colleague on the need for a joint discussion of the issues of protecting the rights of minors, combating drug crime, illegal migration, and corruption. He recalled that Russian prosecutors have accumulated significant experience in many of these areas, and they are willing to share it.

“We are actively developing the practice of supporting public prosecution in cases of criminal use of virtual assets,” the Prosecutor General of Russia cited an example. “Digitalization of prosecutorial activities is being carried out at a rapid pace with the use of new technologies, including artificial intelligence.”

Igor Krasnov noted that today officers of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office spoke before the Thai prosecutors, and presented advanced developments in supervisory activities. He expressed the hope that holding such events would become a good tradition.

In addition, the head of the Russian supervisory agency informed his colleague about the development of fruitful international cooperation in the scientific and educational sphere. “We are implementing free programs of 5-year training for foreign students and short-term advanced training for existing officers from various countries,” said Igor Krasnov. “I invite you to cooperate in this direction.”

The Russian Prosecutor General believes that it would also be useful for Russian prosecutors to learn about the best practices of the Thai prosecutor's office. He expressed confidence that the signing today of the next Cooperation Program for 2023-2024 will contribute to this.

“I have no doubt that it will give a positive impetus to the development of partnerships and, which is very important, non-politicized relations between the prosecution services of our countries, will allow to share experience regularly and develop joint practical measures in order to counter crime,” Igor Krasnov said.

Finally, the Prosecutor General of Russia thanked his colleague for the attention and invited her to visit Moscow.
