Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov met Commander General of the Guardia di Finanza of the Italian Republic Giuseppe Zafarana

Today, at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation a meeting between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov and Commander General of the Guardia di Finanza of the Italian Republic Giuseppe Zafarana has been held for the first time.

The Italian Guardia di Finanza deals with the issues of financial and economic security. It struggles with tax evasion, financing of terrorism, money laundering, cybercrime, copyright infringement and with other crimes committed in the intellectual property sphere. The Guardia di Finanza is also entrusted with responsibilities of the fight against smuggling, illegal migration, organized crime and illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs. It exercises border and customs control, participates in defense of the state border and performs other functions.

Welcoming Giuseppe Zafarana, Igor Krasnov noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia and the competent authorities of Italia traditionally maintain special relations, which are constructive and mutually beneficial. “I am confident that the today’s meeting will provide the impetus to the development of the same fruitful cooperation between our agencies,” said the Russian Prosecutor General. “Especially when there are premises for it. Many directions of work of the Guardia di Finanza represent priority tasks for the Russian Prosecution Service. These are countering cybercrime, legalization of criminal proceeds, financing of terrorism, illegal migration and smuggling of narcotic drugs,” added the head of the Russian supervision authority.

Igor Krasnov expressed his interest in establishing a close working relationship and development of effective responses to the contemporary challenges and threats.

“To date, more than a quarter of all the registered crimes in Russia have been committed by using information and communication technologies. And this is a problem of not national, but international scale, which has been aggravated in conditions of the coronavirus pandemic,” stated the Prosecutor General of Russia. He noted that the increasing threats posed by the cross-border organized crime in conditions of the constantly increasing opportunities of the cyberspace require a joint search for new ways to counteract them. “At the same time, a special attention must be paid to online fraud, threats that pose extremist and terrorist organizations and to their impact on the young generation,” announced Igor Krasnov.

He also recalled that the Russian Prosecution Service has implemented a set of measures aimed to prevent offences in cryptocurrency markets.

In conclusion, Igor Krasnov thanked Giuseppe Zafarana for his initiative to hold a meeting and expressed his confidence that it is only a beginning of the long way, which the agencies will pass side by side.
