Meeting between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and Prosecutor General of Hungary Peter Polt

Today, on June 6, 2019, within the framework of a working visit to the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka met with Prosecutor General of Hungary Peter Polt.

While welcoming his counterpart, he thanked Peter Polt for accepting the invitation to participate in the work of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Yury Chayka reminded about the last year meeting between Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, who had stressed out that Hungary is an important and reliable partner of Russia in Europe.

In this connection the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation took note of positive development of cooperation between prosecutor’s offices of Russia and Hungary in legal sphere. The Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Hungary has been serving as a basis for cooperation between the two agencies for more than ten years.

Three interagency programs, which helped to conduct constructive dialogue on the most topical issues of prosecutorial activity, have already been implemented within the framework of this document.

Yury Chayka assured that the today’s signing of the Program on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Hungary for 2019-2021 would help to strengthen working contacts between the Russian and Hungarian prosecutors. Prosecutors will have a chance to exchange best practices on counteraction to the use of modem technologies for perpetration of crimes of terrorist nature, to share experience on protection of economic interests of the state and society and on recovery of assets gained in an illegal way.

The Russian Prosecutor General drew attention of colleagues to the fact that the subject matter of the Program events correlated in many respects with the topic of the Forum’ session, wherein they were to participate - Legal Environment as a Catalyst for Economic Development. Protection of investors’ Rights.

In this connection he expressed confidence that there would be interesting reports and suggestions on how to tackle the issues the prosecutor’s society face with in the epoch of digital innovations. Yury Chayka also suggested supporting the dissemination of positive experience of joint participation of prosecutor’s bodies of Hungary and Russian in the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.

In conclusion, he expressed high appreciation to the existing level of cooperation with the Hungarian colleagues and voiced confidence that it would continue to develop in such a successful way.

Upon results of the meeting, the Parties signed the Program on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Hungary for 2019-2021.
